Program Description

Vista Hill’s Screening to Care Program is a school-based social-emotional learning program for middle school students in 6th-8th grade. Screening to Care uses proven curriculum to help students learn and practice important life skills to advance their education. The program is a collaboration with the Escondido Union School District, Ramona Unified School District, and is funded by the County of San Diego.

Eligibility

With parent permission, middle school students are invited to complete the mySAEBRS (Social Academic Emotional Behavior Rating Scale) screener at the beginning of the year. This helps us identify who might need some extra support. Through collaboration with school social workers and with parent permission, students can participate in short-term skill-based education groups and/or receive support to the family to connect with any needed community resources.

Participating Schools

  • Bear Valley Middle School
  • Conway Elementary (6th graders only)
  • Del Dios Middle School
  • Hidden Valley Middle School
  • Limitless Learning Academy (6th through 8th grade)
  • Mission Middle School
  • Quantum Academy (6th-8th grade)
  • Rincon Middle School
  • Olive Peirce Middle School

Services

Screening to Care uses a multi-tier approach to effectively provide services:

Tier 1: Each participating middle school uses curriculum-based proactive classroom
management strategies and basic interventions provided by school staff with recommendations from the Vista Hill Screening to Care team.

Tier 2: Some students may need extra support.
With parent consent, students are invited to participate in small groups (4-8 sessions) in order to focus on social-emotional skill building. Groups are provided by the Vista Hill
Screening to Care team with lessons focused on Mindset and Goals, Recognizing Bullying and Harassment, Thoughts-Emotions-Decisions, Managing Relationships, and Social Conflict.

Tier 3: When a student may need more support, the Screening to Care team works with the family to identify community resources and/or private behavioral health services. We help you connect to the best option for your family.

Parent Resources: Services to help parents connect with school and community resources, wellness activities, and parent education workshops.

Professional Staff

Screening to Care staff are comprised of a specially trained support team that engages students and parents/families in the middle schools and community.
